Schengen Visa (Short-Stay Type C) for Europe

A Schengen Visa (Short-Stay Type C) allows travelers to visit and move freely within 27 European countries in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. It is commonly used for tourism, business, family visits, or short-term study. The visa is typically issued by the embassy or consulate of the main destination country and permits entry to all Schengen member states, making it ideal for those planning to visit multiple European countries on a single trip.

For UAE Citizens (UAE Passport Holders)

Step 1: No Schengen Visa Required

UAE citizens can travel to Schengen countries visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism, business, or family visits.

Step 2: Prepare for Entry

Ensure your UAE passport is valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area. Carry proof of accommodation, a return flight ticket, and sufficient funds for your stay. Travel insurance is recommended and sometimes required by airlines.

Step 3: At the Border

Present your passport and supporting documents if requested by border officials.

Step 4: ETIAS (Coming Soon)

From mid-2025, UAE citizens will need to apply online for ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) before travel. This is a quick, online pre-travel authorisation, not a visa.

For UAE Residents (Expats of Other Nationalities)

Step 1: Determine Your Main Destination

Identify the Schengen country where you will spend the most time or first enter.

Step 2: Gather Required Documents

Collect all necessary documents, including your valid passport, UAE residence visa, completed application form, photos, travel and accommodation proof, bank statements, travel insurance, NOC from employer, and any additional documents required by the embassy.

Step 3: Book an Appointment

Schedule an appointment at the visa application center (VFS Global, BLS International) or the embassy/consulate of your main destination country.

Step 4: Submit Application and Biometrics

Attend your appointment, submit your documents, and provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo).

Step 5: Pay the Visa Fee

Pay the Schengen visa fee (usually around €80 for adults, payable in local currency).

Step 6: Wait for Processing

Processing time is typically 10-15 calendar days, but can vary.

Step 7: Collect Your Passport

Once notified, collect your passport from the visa center or receive it by courier. If approved, your passport will have a Schengen visa sticker.

Step 8: Travel to Schengen Area

Carry all supporting documents when you travel, as border officials may request them.
