Australia Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) and ETA (Subclass 601) Process

For UAE Citizens (UAE Passport Holders): ETA Application

Step 1: Check ETA Eligibility

  • UAE passport holders are eligible for the Australia ETA (subclass 601) for short visits (tourism, business, family visits).

Step 2: Download the Australian ETA App

Step 3: Prepare Required Documents

  • Valid UAE passport (at least 6 months validity).

  • A smartphone with camera.

  • Credit/debit card for payment.

  • Email address.

Step 4: Complete the ETA Application

  • Open the ETA app and create an account.

  • Follow the prompts to enter your personal details.

  • Use your phone’s camera to scan your passport and take a selfie for identity verification.

Step 5: Pay the ETA Service Fee

  • Pay the AUD 20 service fee via the app.

Step 6: Submit and Wait for Approval

  • Submit your application through the app.

  • Most applications are processed within minutes, but some may take a few days.

Step 7: Receive ETA Grant Notification

  • You will receive a notification in the app and by email once your ETA is approved.

  • The ETA is electronically linked to your passport; no sticker or stamp is required.

Step 8: Travel to Australia

  • Present your UAE passport at check-in and on arrival in Australia.

  • Carry a printout or screenshot of your ETA grant notification (optional, for reference).

For UAE Residents (Expats): Visa or ETA Based on Nationality

Step 1: Check Your Passport’s Eligibility

  • ETA-eligible passport holders (e.g., UK, USA, Singapore, Malaysia, etc.) can apply for an ETA as above.

  • Non-ETA passport holders (e.g., India, Pakistan, Philippines, Egypt, etc.) must apply for a Visitor Visa (subclass 600).

Step 2: For ETA-Eligible Passport Holders

  • Follow the same ETA steps as UAE citizens above.

Step 3: For Non-ETA Passport Holders – Gather Required Documents

  • Valid passport (at least 6 months validity).

  • UAE residence visa (valid for at least 3 months after return).

  • Recent passport-size photo (as per Australian specifications).

  • Proof of funds (bank statements, pay slips, etc.).

  • Travel itinerary (flight bookings, hotel reservations).

  • Cover letter explaining purpose of visit and ties to UAE.

  • Employment letter or NOC from employer.

  • Proof of ties to UAE (job, property, family).

  • Invitation letter (if visiting family/friends in Australia).

  • Previous travel history (old visas, entry/exit stamps).

  • Any additional documents requested by the online application.

Step 4: Create an ImmiAccount

Step 5: Start a New Application

  • Select Visitor Visa (subclass 600).

  • Choose the Tourist stream (apply outside Australia).

Step 6: Complete the Application Form

  • Fill in all required details and upload all supporting documents.

Step 7: Pay the Visa Fee

  • Pay the AUD 190 visa fee online using a credit/debit card.

Step 8: Biometrics Appointment

  • If required, you will receive a biometrics instruction letter.

  • Book an appointment at the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) in Abu Dhabi or Dubai (VFS Global).

  • Bring your passport, biometrics letter, and appointment confirmation.

Step 9: Wait for Processing

  • Processing time is usually 2-4 weeks.

Step 10: Visa Decision

  • You will receive a notification by email.

  • If approved, you will get a Visa Grant Notice (PDF) with your visa details.

  • No visa sticker is placed in your passport; your visa is electronic.

  • Carry a printout of your Visa Grant Notice when you travel.

  • Present your passport and UAE residence visa at check-in and on arrival in Australia.
